Court Markings Timeline

Basketball New Zealand has set the timeline for changes to basketball court markings over the next four years. Last April, the FIBA Central Board voted to change court markings for all FIBA-affiliated competitions, leagues and federations, reshaping the restricted area (lane) from a trapezoid to rectangle, extending the three-point line and adding a no-charge zone under the hoop.

Emerging Juniors At U21s

Emerging Juniors At U21s

Basketball New Zealand has approved the participation of the New Zealand Emerging Junior Tall Blacks and Ferns at the U21 Championships in Tauranga from May 6-9. After consultation with associations, a recommendation was made to the BBNZ board to allow both national U17 teams to compete against association teams at the U21 tournament in 2009 . . .

Junior National Camp Squads

Basketball New Zealand has finalised squads lists for April’s junior national camps in Hamilton. The 78 athletes - from the Emerging Junior Tall Blacks and Ferns, and boys and girls U16 squads that attended the All-NZ Camp in January - will come together to push for national team selection.

The next World Masters Games will be held in Sydney from October 10-18, 2009 and New Zealand-based organisers are looking to form a club to enter Kiwi teams. The World Masters Games are held every four years and attract up to 25,000 competitors in 28 different sports, with basketball one of the core sports.

Trueman Honoured

Former Tall Black Jeremiah Trueman ended his college career on a high at home on Saturday and received one final accolade on the way out. Trueman scored 19 points (8/17 FG, 0/1 3pt, 3/4 FT) with seven rebounds, two steals and a block in 31 minutes in University of Alaska-Anchorage’s 95-69 rout of Western Oregon, after being honoured pre-game as one of two out-going seniors.

The New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks have fallen 58-50 to the Melbourne Tigers U23 squad in the youth league 1 final at the Big V Pre-season Tournament in Melbourne on Monday night. Penney First Kiwi MVP

Tall Blacks and New Zealand Breakers star shooting guard Kirk Penney has collected the Andrew Gaze Trophy as the Australian National Basketball League’s Most Valuable Player for 2008-09. Penney registered 92 votes to narrowly take out the award from Sydney Spirit big man Matthew Knight on 90 and became the first New Zealander to win the ANBL’s top award.

The Australian National Basketball League has announced New Zealand Breakers veteran Phill Jones has won the Best Sixth Man award for the 2008-09 season. Jones, who came third in voting for the same award last year, took out the honours as the NBL’s best-off-the-bench this season after polling 56 votes.

Arnaud Guppillotte is the head coach of the French Women’s U16 national team, which won the bronze medal at this year’s FIBA European Championship, and head coach at the French National Center (INSEP) in Paris.
