With her team still in contention for the Australian Women’s National Basketball League title, former Tall Fern Lisa Pardon received further accolades earlier this week. The former Christchurch Sirens guard was announced the three-point shooting award winner on Tuesday, after dropping 45.6 percent of her three-point attempts during the 2008-09 season.

JTBs Step Out
The Junior Tall Blacks preparations for the FIBA U19 Championship for Men move into a new phase in Melbourne this weekend. After two behind-closed-doors week-long training camps in Porirua in December and January, the JTBs step-out for their first meaningful game-time this season at the Big V Pre-season tournament, starting Saturday.

Tall Blacks Mika Vukona and Nick Horvath saw their South Dragons draw first blood in the 2009 Australian National Basketball League Finals with a 93-81 win in Melbourne on Wednesday. Vukona scored four points (2/7 FG) with five rebounds, two steals and an assist in 27 minutes, while Horvath did not play, as the regular season champion . . .

Vucinic Enjoying Estonia
Turns out Tall Blacks head coach Nenad Vucinic and his Estonian club, BC Kalev/Cramo, still have work to do to make the Baltic Basketball League’s Final Four, after all. Currently third in the BBL at 11-6 after an 82-76 home win over last-placed Nevezis of Lithuania on Friday, will have to wait until the last night of the regular season to know their playoff fate.

Familiar Faces For JTBs
The New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks have been pooled with Argentina, Croatia and Kazakhstan in group D for the FIBA U19 World Championship for Men from July 2-12 after the official draw on Monday. The JTBs, who will be competing in the U19 world championship for the first time, open their tournament against Argentina at the North Shore Events Centre on Tuesday, June 2.
