U21 Head Coach EOI

Basketball New Zealand invites expressions of interest for the role of head coach for a men’s team to attend the FIBA Oceania Tournament in Saipan, North Mariana Islands. This tournament, scheduled for June 20-28, is a senior event and BBNZ intends sending an U21 selection, the nucleus of which would likely be those Junior Tall Black squad members that miss selection for the FIBA U19 Championship.

Edwards Nears State Finals

Junior Tall Blacks hopeful Richie Edwards is now three games from a 6A state championship with his Lakeland High team in Florida after two playoff wins in the last six days. Edwards scored 11 points and pulled in 15 rebounds as the Lakeland Dreadnaughts defeated Sickles High of Tampa 48-43 at home on Tuesday to advance to the regional final, where they will host Orlando’s Olympia High on Saturday.

TBs One Game From Finals

Tall Blacks Mika Vukona and Nick Horvath moved to within a game of the Australian National Basketball League Finals with the South Dragons on Tuesday night. Vukona had three points (1/4 FG, 1/2 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and a steal in 21 minutes in the regular season champion Dragons 94-81 win at home in Melbourne in game one of their best-of-three semifinal series against the Townsville Crocodiles.

NBL Tips Off With Blitz

The Century City Saints will host the 2009 NBL Blitz, to be held at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua on February 27-28, 2009. The Blitz brings all nine franchises competing in the 2009 NBL to one arena over two days for an intense pre season tournament with all teams getting valuable court time ahead of the season which is scheduled to tip-off on Saturday, March 14.
